Taj Mahal History and Facts

It took approximately 22 years, 22,000 laborers and 1,000 elephants to build this epitome of love. The monument was made entirely of white marble brought from all over Asia. The Taj is adorned with 28 different varieties of semi-precious and precious stones with exquisite inlay work. Taj Mahal, seemingly, appears of different color depending on the time of the day and the shape of moon. Excerpts from Qoran have been inscribed as decorative design on the outer complex. On the sides of the actual tomb of Mumtaz Mahal, 99 names of Allah have been inscribed in a calligraphic format.

Taj Mahal Visiting Hours

October to March is considered to be the best time to visit the Taj Mahal. The visual beauty of the Taj Mahal is at its peak during sunrise, sunset, and under the full moon night. But Taj Mahal appears to exhume a different aura due to its exuberance and radiance as per different seasons.

How to Reach Taj Mahal

By Air: The fastest way of reaching Taj Mahal, Agra is by air. The city of Taj has its own airport that is around 7 km from the city center.

By Rail: There is a good network of trains connecting Agra with the rest of the country. Apart from the main railway station of Agra Cantonment, there are other smaller stations as well.

By Road: The main bus stand of Idgah has a number of buses running to nearby important cities.

Local Transportation

After reaching the city also you can take a taxi, tempo, auto-rickshaw or cycle rickshaw to reach Taj Mahal. Prepaid taxis, rented bicycles can also be opted for. Since diesel and petrol vehicle are not permitted in the vicinity of Taj Mahal area, you can find battery-operated buses, horse-driven tongas, rickshaws and other pollution-free vehicles there.
